The somerset humane society provides a home and services for unwanted and stray animals.
More funding to help with the shelters' expenses in neutering,
vaccinating and housing unwanted/stray animals in the community. They
rely solely off donations of food, supplies and any amount of money
people in the community can pay forward. They are always in need of
supplies and food. They also rely on local veterinarian's donating their
services. They have been providing services to the community for many
years and its time they get the resources and updates they need.
This
grant would be used to meet the shelters food supply need, as well as
cleaning supplies and everyday items that the animals need to survive.
Donated blankets, toys, leashes/collars, litter pans, and cat/dog food
are a few of the supplies that need to be replenished often. The shelter
also provides a home for "pocket pets" such as rabbits and guinea pigs,
in which case cages and specialty foods are in need. As well as
resources to pay for spaying and neutering of incoming dogs and cats.
Repair of any structural damage and updates to their building are also
at the mercy of donated services and time. With this grant Somerset
Humane Society could not only fill their supplies fully but make any
needed updates to their spaces.
We are the only cause from Maine running to be one of the top 40 to receive a $25,000 grant!

Below is a little info on the program
What is Neighborhood Assist?
• State Farm Neighborhood Assist empowers people to identify problems in their community and provides an
opportunity for communities to receive funding to make a positive impact in their neighborhood. Causes were
submitted at www.neighborhoodassist.com in early September.
• The State Farm Youth Advisory Board reviewed the submissions and identified the finalists based on a scoring
rubric created specifically for the program. The rubric is available to the general public as part of the program’s
Official Rules and Regulations which can be found at:
