[ARCHIVED] DC Trip 2013

2012 DC Trip

Larry Ross, a former teacher at Margaret Chase Smith School, has been guiding trips to Arlington National Cemetery since 2003. Since his retirement a number of parents have teamed up with Larry to coordinate this trip to Washington. The primary focus for the trip has been to lay wreaths at Arlington, a tradition begun by a man from Maine more than twenty years ago. A number of families are interested in going to Washington but this year we plan to participate in the clean up of the cemetery rather than the placing of wreaths.

The theme for the DC trips has been Faces, Places and Big Ideas. While Arlington is one of the main places we visit, Larry works hard to insure the Faces we meet and Big Ideas we discuss on the trip lead to a rewarding and valuable educational experience for everyone. We are confident former participants would confirm that experience.

This is not a school function. Students will be responsible for coordinating with their teachers for any work missed. The clean up day is Saturday, January 25. Our plans are to leave Thursday Jan. 23 and return Monday Jan 27. Estimated cost is $500. Limited financial assistance may be available. If you want your child to participate and financing is an issue please let us see what we can work out.

If you have an interest in learning more about this trip and would like to consider participating contact Mary Pono immediately as we are booking reservations soon.
