Brookfield Renewable will be conducting an unanticipated headpond drawdown at the Weston Hydro Project. Beginning on the evening of October 4th, 2017 that will continue over the course of the next 36 hours. Ultimately, the Weston headpond will be drawn down from El. 156.0’ to 147.0’, a total of 9 feet. The headpond will remain at the lower elevation for approximately four to six weeks in order to perform the repair work and ensure the safety of our crew. The refill will start once the repairs are complete. Any changes to this schedule will be communicated with relevant stakeholders.
At this time there is no danger to the area. During an ongoing maintenance project, concrete deterioration of the downstream side of the pier on the dam spillway was observed. A drawdown of the project impoundment is necessary to make necessary repairs to the facility to ensure its long term operability.
Residents in the area are asked to take the necessary precautions regarding boats, seaplanes, etc. As always we ask everyone to be extremely careful in and around waterways and hydroelectric facilities.
